Physicians
Richard J. DePersio, M.D., FACS
“Many of the problems we see in our practice have solutions. Solving them with the patient is a very rewarding experience.”
Dr. DePersio certainly comes from a family of physicians – his father, both brothers, an uncle and two cousins are doctors. Knowing at an early age that he would be a physician left only the choice of a medical specialty. Fascination with the anatomy of the ear, nose and throat and the range of patients he would see led Dr. DePersio to otolaryngology.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee, Dr. DePersio earned his medical degree at UT in Memphis. He did an internship and a residency program at City of Memphis Hospital and a residency in otolaryngology at UT Memphis. He has board certification in both otolaryngology and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. DePersio has long been active in professional organizations, currently serving as president of the Knoxville Academy of Medicine Foundation. He was a founding member of Project Access, which provides care to patients who do not have insurance. He also has been president of the Knoxville Academy of Medicine, vice president of the Tennessee Medical Association, and is a delegate to the American Medical Association. Dr. DePersio is currently president elect of Tennessee Medical Association until April 2009 at which time he will be president of Tennessee Medical Association.
Leisure time finds Dr. DePersio spending time with his family or playing golf or basketball. He and his wife have seven children.
