Audiology & Hearing Aids

The Audiology department at Greater Knoxville Ear Nose & Throat is open for appointments while providing the safest possible environment. To protect yourself and our staff, we do ask that you wear a facial covering to your appointment. We also ask that you only bring someone with you to your appointment when necessary due to mobility, transportation, or hearing/communication issues, or when the patient is a minor.

We would also like to make sure our patients know that we can ship assisted listening devices for the television or for a conversation with others in the home, ship hearing aid batteries and supplies, help with hearing aid repairs over the phone when possible, set up captioned telephone deliveries, and assist in the download of call-to-text smartphone apps.

Hearing Loss

The signs of hearing loss may differ, depending on whether a person is an adult or a child. Symptoms can range from missing parts of conversations in adults to delayed or poor speech in a child.

Hearing Testing

A careful evaluation of the sensitivity of a patient’s sense of hearing can help determine the type and degree of hearing loss so that the appropriate treatment can be administered.

Tinnitus is a continuous or intermittent ringing in the ears. Most tinnitus comes from damage to microscopic endings of the hearing nerve in the inner ear. Other causes include allergies, high or low blood pressure, tumor, diabetes, thyroid problems, head or neck injuries, and medications.

Hearing Aids

We provide comprehensive hearing care with onsite Ear, Nose and Throat Physicians and Audiologists. Our solutions are customized to the needs of each patient. A sampling of solutions offered at GKENT includes the following:

Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs)

ALDs help those with hearing loss overcome background noise and poor acoustics by amplifying and clarifying what one wishes to hear. They can be used for personal one-on-one conversations or classroom/conference type situations.

Custom Earplugs

An earplug is a device inserted into the ear canal to protect the ear from loud noises, excessive wind or the intrusion of foreign bodies including water. Custom earplugs help reduce discomfort and improve protection and performance from the generic “one size fits all” earplug.

Earmolds can assist in reducing feedback in hearing aids and better clarity in the presence of excess background noise. They are custom made to help protect the ear and improve comfort and efficiency.

Hearing Aids

A hearing aid is designed to amplify sound for the user. There are many styles of hearing aids which range in size, power and electrical structure.
